How to search in TRUE Incognito mode

Using Google Chromes incognito window or FireFox Private browsing does not render true search results. In fact, it still shows location based ad's which indicates that Google is still gathering as much local data about you to provide results. This can be frustrating for advertising agencies that have clients that are curious about their ranks of specific keywords. So lets address a few issues that I have just mentioned.

If you are managing an SEO campaign, it's a good idea to shift your tactics to focus on traffic instead of keyword ranks. Why? Well, Matt Frandsen explains it very well in this article. Even though they are in a specific industry, you might want to take time to determine weather 'long tail' keywords generate the majority of your traffic.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't track keywords as they still generate a TON of traffic to your site.

But what about this true incognito thingy? Search results are still showing location based ads when your in spy mode? Yep. That's because Google uses your IP address to determine where you're searching from. Here is a quick tip to do a true "Incognito" search.

Instead of using Google.com try going to one of their IP addresses. The cool part is that you don't even need to do an incognito search. Just simply open a browser and go to the IP. It looks like a normal Google search but provides no location based results unless you specify the area that you are searching in like "Dentists in Boulder, CO"

How do you get one of these Google IP addresses?
Back in 2006 Barry Schwartz wrote an article that listed a whole slew of IP addresses found here. Now, not all of them work, but through trial and error you can find one that will work for your searches.
